Course outline and syllabus

Learn simple breathing techniques, yoga sequences and relaxation exercises to help self manage stress and anxiety. Includes expert information about sensory integration and how to manage behaviours that challenge. Practical take home skills for those looking for a mindful approach to health and wellbeing.

Our teacher-training course has met the stringent requirements set by The Yoga Alliance Professionals.  Graduates are trained to the highest standard and are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance Professionals. Counts as 15 hours towards CEU’s.

Learning objectives:

  • Develop a better understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and global development delays
  • Learn simple breathing techniques, yoga postures and relaxation exercises to enhance self awareness, mood and behaviour
  • Explore the benefits of a non – competitive approach to physicality to enhance engagement and participation
  • Understand the relationship between parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system to the sensory system
  • Defining sensory processing and the 8 senses
  • Explore the freedom of movement to music to encourage spatial awareness, co-ordination and self expression
  • Build a simple and effective movement therapy session
  • Strategies to encourage self-confidence, classroom learning and social integration
  • Learn how to manage behaviours that challenge and understand the importance of supporting the carer

Module content includes:

Saturday, 9am – 5pm

  • A detailed look at Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, global development delays and other complex needs
  • Understand the relationship between parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system to the sensory system
  • Defining sensory processing and the 8 senses
  • Experience the Energy exchange and how this impacts holistic wellbeing
  • Learn breathing techniques, yoga postures and relaxation exercises to enhance self awareness, mood and behaviour
  • Take home lesson plans that you can use straight away with your individuals or groups
  • Observe a real life class!

Day one – Together, we will explore yoga as a sensory integration to organise mental states, release tension and relax.  You’ll learn how to build a programme to support your individual’s specific needs, take home lesson plans, optimise engagement, utilise PECS and reinforcements, with emphasis on scheduling and consistency of sessions.

Sunday, 9am – 4pm

  • Explore the freedom of movement to music to encourage spatial awareness, co-ordination and self expression
  • Build a simple and effective movement therapy session
  • Understanding Mindfulness and its potential to transform energy
  • Learn how to manage behaviours that challenge during sessions, encourage participation and focus
  • Learn techniques that supporting the wellbeing of the carer

Day two we’ll take a look at movement to music, sound and the freedom to express and explore. We’ll delve deeper into teaching strategies offering support for situations that may arise when delivering a session. For example: How best to support behaviours that challenge? What to do during an escalation?  How to encourage your student to participate and stay focused.

The course will conclude with Mindfulness and other restorative techniques that support the wellbeing of the carer.

Who is this course for?

This course is open to all, no previous knowledge of yoga or dance required: Parents, carers, SENCO school tutors, ABA tutors, OT therapists, paediatric professionals, service providers, yoga, Pilates, fitness professionals and anyone looking for simple strategies to support individuals with Autism, learning disabilities and mental health
